The Idea

  • An annual1-day tree-planting event
  • 500-1000 trees planted each year
  • A tree for each participating student
  • Symbolic fee to cover tree costs
  • Target audience: final year students

  • 2 weeks
  • 413 responses
  • 69.2% (285) would like to leave a student legacy
  • 78.2% (323) would like to plant a tree as their legacy
  • ~ 20% are not sure; need for effective advertisement

Obtaining trees

  • Help from Woodland Trust Scotland
  • Community tree packs of 420 trees
  • 1 pack per planting season

Land issue

  • City of Edinburgh Council
  • Woodland Trust Scotland
  • Edinburgh Royal Botanic Gardens
  • UofE Estates and Buildings (Landscaping)
