PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Tundra is the coldest biome. It is found in the Arctic and on top of mountains where the climate is cold and windy.
Low growing shrubs are plants that live in the tundra. low-lying - the snow covers it in winter which helps insulate it,
seeds that scatter in the wind.
Narrow leaves help to reduce transpiration.
Adapted to a short growing season (so has a short life cycle)
Dense flowerheads reducing heat loss.
Wolves are one of the animals that live in the tundra. They have white fur, which allows them to blend into their snowy surroundings. To help reduce heat loss, they have more-rounded ears, a shorter muzzle and shorter legs than other gray wolf subspecies. The adaption is needed because if they didn't have the thick fur or the more rounded ears they would freeze.
Permafrost, temperature, precipitation,and wind.
The permanently frozen ground is called permafrost. Tundra is characterized by very cold temperatures and low rainfall, creating a very cold desert.
The word tundra comes from a Finnish word tunturi, which means treeless plain or barren land. The tundra is a very fragile biome that is shrinking as the permafrost melts. The " Million Dollar Bridge" is a landmark in the tundra. The tundra gets about as much precipitation as the average desert, around 10 inches per year, most of it is snow. 10 percent of the world is tundra.
