PLAIN

  • A plain is a somewhat broad area of flat land.
  • An example or a plain is curry county in new mexico on the north american great plains

REEF

  • A reef is a rock, sandbar or other feature lying beneath the surface of water
  • The Pamalican island is surronded by reef, Sulu Sea, Philippines

PLATEAU

  • A plateau is an area of highland, usually consisting of flat terrain
  • An example of a plateau is the island in the sky, canyonlands national park

ISLAND

  • A island is any piece of subcontinental land that is surrounded by water
  • An example of an island is a small island in lower Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks in the U.S.

RIVER

  • A river is a natural watercourse, usually freshwater that flows towards a lake, ocean, sea or another river
  • An example of a river is the Loboc River in Bohol, Philippines

LAKE

  • A lake is an area filled with water of different sizes that is surronded by land
  • An example of a lake is the lake of Vesoul in France

MOUNTAIN

  • A mountain is a large landform that stretches above the surrounding land usually in the form of a peak
  • An example of a mountain is Mount Everest, the highest peak on earth

STRAIT

  • A strait is a naturally formed, narrow waterway the connects two larger bodies of water
  • An example of a strait is the strait of Messina

PENINSULA

  • A peninsula is a piece of land that is surronded by water on three sides but connected to mainland
  • An example of a peninsula is a small one in Croatia located in the picture

ISTHMUS

  • A isthmus is a narrow strip of land connecting two larger land areas, usually with water on either side
  • An example is the sandy isthmus connecting north and south Bruny Island in Tasmania, Australia

ARCHIPELAGO

  • An Archipelago is a stretch of water with a collection of islands
  • An example is the Fernando de Noronha in Brazil

CANYON

  • A canyon is a deep ravine between cliffs and is mostly carved from the landscape by erosive activity of a river over geologic timescales
  • An example of a canyon is the Grand Canyon

DELTA

  • A delta is a landform that forms at the mouth of a river, where the river flows into a ocean, lake etc.
  • An example of a delta is the Sacramento Delta

GULF

  • A gulf is a large bay that is an arm of a ocean or sea.
  • An example of a gulf is the Gulf of Mexico
