DEFINING THE THEORY

  • Gas molecules exert no force on each other unless they collide
  • Collisions of molecules with each other or the walls of the container do not decrease the energy of the system
  • The molecules of a gas are in constant and random motion

SOLID, LIQUID, GAS

  • Gas are well separated with no regular arrangement.
  • Liquid are close together with no regular arrangement.
  • Solid are tightly packed, usually in a regular pattern.

PRESSURE

  • Is the force applied perpendicular to the surface of an object per unit area over which that force is distributed.

THERMAL EXPANSION

  • Is the tendency of matter to change in shape, area, and volume in response to a change in temperature, through heat transfer.

CONVECTION

  • The transfer of heat by the circulation or movement of the heated parts of a liquid or gas

CONDUCTION

  • The transfer of heat between two parts of a stationary system, caused by a temperature difference between the parts

DENSITY

  • It is the amount of area that the partials of a solid, liquid, or gas take up
