HISTORY

  • The Indian hemp plant (from which cannabis drugs are made ) was grown for use as a hallucinogen more than 2,000 years ago.
  • The amount of THC in the hemp plant determines the strength of the drug. Overtime the THC has increased from 1% to 10.2%

WHAT IS IT?

  • It is one of the most abused drugs in the world.
  • There are over 400 chemicals in marijuana

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

  • Marijuana, when sold, is a mixture of dried out leaves, stems, flowers and seeds of the hemp plant. It is usually green, brown or gray in color.

STREET NAMES FOR MARIJUANA

  • Pot, Herb, Weed, Buds, Blaze, Grass, White Widow, Ganja, Dry High, Astro Yurf, Bhang, Dagga, Dope, Hemp, ranch dressing, and the devils lettuce.

HOW ITS MADE

  • Marijuana is made from dried flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. It is the least potent of all the cannabis products and is usually smoked or made into edible products like cookies or brownies
  • It's most commonly rolled into joints

SHORT AND LONG TERM EFFECTS

  • (Short term) Feeling of well-being; Talkativeness; Drowsiness; Loss of inhibitions; Decreased nausea; Increased appetite; Loss of co-ordination; Bloodshot eyes; Dryness of the eyes, mouth, and throat; Anxiety and paranoia.
  • (Long term) Increased risk of respiratory diseases associated with smoking, including cancer; Decreased memory and learning abilities; Decreased motivation in areas such as study, work or concentration.
