2008B) In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, two young boys are dragged through adolescent terror while being driven by a cultural need for courage and approval. Amir and Hassan are the child protagonists of the book who endure a massive amount of childhood tribulations together. The events that eventually lead these two boys towards their ultimate goal of courage and approval are what shapes this book as a whole. Themes such as sacrificing ones happiness for another and becoming a respectable adult are the terrifying representations of adolescents in the novel.
2009B) The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini uses the political and social issues of the Middle East in 1963 as the driving force behind the central conflict of the novel. Amir and Hassan, the two main characters and protagonists of the novel, are driven apart by the social issues laid before them in 1963 Kabul, Afghanistan. The author employs literary elements such as cultural diction to set the scene and an intense amount of symbolism to create a connection to the characters.
a.) The 1st paragraph will focuses on explaining how Amir's childhood affected him in his adulthood. What traumatic events played an important role in shaping the person he is today. The majority of the novel is shaped around Amir's childhood and his path towards redemption (which stems from his childhood). "I became what I am at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975".The 2nd paragraph shows the characters evolution from adolescent to adult. How the character has changed, taking a negative period from his childhood and turning it into a positive. How Amir builds character (graduating, taking care of his father, becoming a good husband ect...) The 3rd paragraph will show how the character confronts his demons head on and resolves his internal conflict with the past; overcoming the demons from his childhood (rescuing Sohrab).
b.) the evidence we will use to support our thesis will be direct quotes from the novel. Including Amir's betrayal and disloyalty towards Hassan and how that affected him. Then, Amir's redemption, rescuing Sohrab and how he felt afterwards.
c.) We will conclude the essay by reiterating the point made in the thesis that the trauma you experience in your childhood will stay with you even after you reach adulthood, it's not until you face it head on that you can experience true freedom and happiness.
