Early Life
Born February 27,1897
Born in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania
She wanted to join a choir class
At the age of 10, Marian joined the People's Chorus.
Marian was 12, her father was accidentally struck on the head.

Major Accomplishments
First black person to perform at the Metropolitan Opera
At the age of six, Anderson sang in the choir of the Union Baptist Church.
By the late 1930s, Anderson's voice had made her famous on both sides of the Atlantic
Awarded the $10,000 Bok Prize that year by the city of Philadelphia.
Anderson used the award money to establish a singing competition to support young sing

She died April 8,1993.
