In 1930 a journalist first used "elephant" to describe the Alabama team, saying: " The earth started to tremeble , there was a distant rumble that continued to grow. Some excited fan in the stands bellowed, "hold your horses, the elephants are coming.”

Biology
The Department of Biological Sciences offers a degree leading to a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology. This is a rigorous program that offers broad exposure to various aspects of biological sciences including ecology, systematics biodiversity, plant and animal biology, microbiology and molecular and cellular biology.

Physical Therapist
Students with such an interest may combine degree programs leading to a variety of majors and minors with entrance requirements for master's programs in physical therapy.
