Appeasement

  • The agreement to Hilter's plan by France and Britain in efforts to prevent another war which led to him trying to invade Poland as well and eventually WWII.

2nd Great Migration

  • The leaving of African Americans from the South to the North and West for jobs due to the expansion of industrial production.

Four Freedoms

  • The four freedoms were the freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from fear, and the freedom of want. Later illustrated by the artist Norman Rockwell which eventually led to the increase of war bonds sold.

Pearl Harbor

  • The place that Japan bombed in retaliation because of the embargo on steel and oil. It led to the US joining World War Two.

Victory Gardens

  • The encouragement from the US to its citizens to grow their own food so there would be more to send over to the troops. It helped in raising moral, unifying the country, expressing patriotism and more.

Double V Campaign

  • The campaign that aimed to end racism in the US and fascism overseas. It mentioned how a person shouldn't be fighting for a country that discriminated against other races especially African Americans.

Island Hopping

  • The capturing of lightly defended islands one by one until they got closer to Japan to strike. It succeeded in cutting off the supply lanes to bigger and stronger islands leaving them with no reinforcement while keeping the US close enough to attack.

Operation Overlord

  • The liberation of France from Germany leading to the increase of Allied powers to fight the Axis powers in a top secret mission by the Allies bringing in supplies and fresh troops.

Manhattan Project

  • The top secret project by the US to create a nuclear weapon which was eventually used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to effectively make Japan surrender.

Neutrality Acts

  • Acts released by congress that stated that the US wanted to remain neutral and keep its isolationist stance as to not join the war.

Executive Order 9066

  • The putting of Japanese Americans into concentration camps due to claims "national security purposes." It led to the incrimination of American citizens of Japanese decent and deemed them as "enemies of the state."

Allies

  • The powers that fought against the Axis powers which included the US, Brittain, France, the USSR and more.

Axis Powers

  • The powers that fought agains the Allied powers which included Germany, Japan, and Italy.

United Nations

  • Due to the failure of the League of Nations, a new peacekeeping organization was put in place which still exists today. It resolves the conflicts of nations, strengthening and promoting democratic institutions around the world, and more.

Tuskegee Airmen

  • The selection of college students for "an experiment" that taught African American servicemen how to fly which wasn't allowed before because of racial discrimination. Which showed that black people can fly advanced aircraft in combat as well as white men.

Harry Truman

  • The President who made the decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan because it would "end the war quickly and save American lives." He also spoke out about African American civil rights and discrimination in the military.

Adolf Hitler

  • The facist Nazi dictator that came to power by first becoming chancellor as well as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and Commander in Chief of the Army. He put millions of Jewish people in to concentration camps as well as killing them.

Joseph Stalin

  • The dictator of the USSR that shocked the world by signing the Nonagression Pact with Hitler of which eventually broke it. The betrayal later led to the USSR joining the Allied Powers.

Douglas MacArthur

  • The general that created the idea of Island Hopping as well as promising the surrendered POWs that he would come back for them. He was eventually fired due to going around his boss's back when he already said no to try and get what he wanted.

Mussolini

  • The fascist leader of Italy during WWII that was influenced by Hitler to release an anti-Jewish legislation in Italy. His influence led to Italy fighting alongside the Axis Powers.
