PRESENTATION OUTLINE

BIOTIC

Biotic- Pertaining to, or produced by life or living organisms of an ecosystem.

CARBONATION

Carbonation- A process of chemical weathering whereby minerals that contain soda, lime, potash, or basic oxides are changed to carbonates by the carbonic acid in air or water.

CHEMICAL WEATHERING

Chemical weathering- The erosion or disintegration of rocks, buildings, ect. caused by chemical reactions.

DEPOSITION

Deposition- The geological process by which material is added to a landform or land mass.

ECOREGION

Ecoregion- Area of land with identifiable climate patters, vegetation, physical features, and other factors that affect the environment and habitat diversity.

ENVIRONMENT

Environment- The surroundings or conditions in witch a person, animal,or plant lives or operates.

EROSION

Erosion- The process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or natural agents.

EXFOLIATION

Exfoliation- A rock weathering process in which concentric slabs, plates, or shells of rock, from less than one centimeter to several meters in thickness are successfully removed from the outer surface of a large rock outcrops.

ICE WEDGINGS

A type of mechanical weathering in which rocks are broken down in by the expansion of water as it freezes in joints, pores, or bedding plains.

MECHANICAL WEATHERING

It takes place when rocks are broken down without any change in the chemical nature of rock.

OXIDATION

The process or result of oxidizing or being oxidized.

PROCESSES

To preform a series of mechanical or chemical operations in order to change or preserver it.

RESHAPING

To give a particular shape or form.

THERMAL EXPANSION

A tendency of matter to change in volume in response to a change in temperature

UNFOLDING/UPLIFTING

Type of physical weathering that occurs when over laying material is removed through erosion and the confining pressure on the underlaying rock is decreased allowing the rock to expand literally.

WEATHERING

To change by exposure of the weather.
