Protectorate - an independent state that is controlled and protected by another state. This is important because it led to increasing the rise of European national states as a prelude to annexation, particularly by France

Spanish American War - the war that US gained the territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.
This is important because this war was the reason of that the United States became a world naval power.

Yellow Journalism - The scandalous stories and shocking illustration based on little factual information
This is important because it was one of the reasons that the Spanish American War occurred.

Great White Fleet - The 16 battleships of the new US Navy that Roosevelt sent on a voyage around the world to show off our nation's military might. This is important because it provided practical experience for US naval personnel in sea duty and ship handling.

Isolationism - A national policy of avoiding involvement in world affairs. This is important because it refers to America's longstanding reluctance to become involved in European alliances and wars.

Boxer Rebellion - Secret Chinese societies began organizing to kick out foreign control. This is important because it highlighted the pressures that the country was under at the time, due to the tensions created by foreign influence and western imperialism.

Dollar Diplomacy - Policy under the president Taft to further its aim in Latin America and East Asia through using its economic power. This is important because it meant making other nations dependent on the dollar so that they welcome America.

Platt Amendment - Amendment to the Cuban constitution by which the US was allowed certain privileges. This is important because it impacted on Cuban which permitted extensive U.S. involvement in Cuban international and domestic affairs for the enforcement of Cuban independence.

Moral Diplomacy - Form of diplomacy proposed by Woodrow Wilson which encourage democratic pro-American governments in Latin America. This is important because it promotes the growth of the nation's ideals and damages nations with different ideologies.

Roosevelt Corollary - document that an addition onto the Monroe Doctrine which stated the US had the right to intervene in the affairs of Latin America whenever they saw necessary. This is important because it led to good consequences which Compatible with the broader commercial and strategic interests of the United States.

Imperialism - idea that one country has the right to conquer another country and put that territory under its control and influence.
This is important because necessary to preserve the existing social order in the more developed countries. And it can increase the political power.

Big Stick Diplomacy - the policy of carefully mediated negotiation. This is important because it impacted US economy, as expanded America's influence in Cuba and negotiated a peace treaty between Russia and Japan.

Panama Canal - President Theodore Roosevelt oversaw the realization of a long-term United States goal. This is important because it gave many benefits such as job creation, Substantial increases in business and major supply chain infrastructure development

Open Door Policy - policy indicates to employees that a supervisor or manager is open to an employee's questions. This is important because it has potential to bring great value to any business.

Propaganda - the posters that are facts, arguments, rumors, half-truths, or lies to influence public opinion. This is important because this and subsequent modern wars required propaganda to mobilize hatred against the enemy.

Great Migration - the movement of some six million African Americans from rural areas of United States to urban areas in the Northern states. This is important because it created a black urban culture that has a huge impact on the year.

War Industries Board - coordinate and channel production in the United States by setting priorities, fixing prices, and standardizing products to support the war efforts of the United States and its allies. This is important because it ensured the U.S. had the war materials necessary to fight in World War I.

Liberty Bonds - debt obligation issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury in conjunction with the Federal Reserve. This is importance because it helped to fund the American war effort.

League of Nations - peacekeeping organization established after WW1. The US did not join because congress believed it would entangle the US in world affair. This is important because it impacted the peace of the nation by would guarantee the territorial integrity and political independence of member states
