Why the Job is Appealing:

  • The job of a biophysicist is closely related to many other lines of work at the intersection of biology/medicine and a technological approach so it is attractive in the sense that it would likely attract scientists looking to work at the intersection of one or more fields and bring more of a real-life application to other, primary theoretical fields that it lies adjacent to
  • I am intrigued by this job for reasons listed above; I am very interested in biology from a more technical standpoint and how it can be applied to our lives. Moreover, I am also interested in the "lower-end" work that falls upon these researchers, namely interpreting and presenting existing data and using it to establish new findings or build upon existing ones

Salary and Future Outlook:

  • The current annual salary in B.C. reportes a median of $109k. yearly with a range from $62k. - $157k., this is based of an average 2086 h. per year so the median ($109k.) means about $52.25 per hour on the job
  • According to a estimation of growth in employment from Statistics Canada Occupation Group, there will be a increase from 35,000 employed in 2016 to 40,000 in 2026, or a yearly increase of 500 workers, note this figure groups all "Physicists" as an entity

Perks vs. Drawbacks:

  • Pros: Salary can be supplemented through volunteering for reseach and consulting work, they make very good money on average compared to other disiplines, in the long-run engineering/physics has one of the highest ratios of money earned: money spent on schooling, often get payed holidays and vacations if working for a university or other research school
  • Cons: Bachelor degrees in physics and related disciplines are nearly useless until you have your Ph.D. which could more than ten years, it does not have as much professional esteem as many other careers that require less schooling most cases (eg. law, medicine), due to the need for a Ph.D. many must work and be in school simulteniously whihc can be draining and difficult to manage, some positions require lots of travel that can make it hard to settle down in one area

Skill and Education Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in physics or a related field is usually required as a baseline requirement, while physicists often need a master's or doctors degree in a field of physics, engineering or a related disapline to qualify so anywhere from 6 - 10 years of schooling is commonplace
  • On the skills side, analytical/problem-solving, communication, mathematics, perseverance and critical-thinking skills are often cited as mosthighly desirable

Am I Compatible With the Job?

  • According to MyBluprint I have a 93% match with this occupation, additionally my primary interests, motivations, and knowledge points are all listed a "good matches"
  • From the combatibility survey I answered 9/10 of the questions regarding how enthusastically I felt about the job's responsibilities as "definitely"
  • In all, this marks me as extremely compatible with the occupation
