Types of contract (format holders, licensors, naming conventions, look and feel)

Negotiating contracts (commissioning process, costing, scheduling, time management, risk management)

Subcontracting (outsourcing, working to a brief)

Types of contracts

  • Development agreements
  • License agreements
  • Collaboration agreements
  • NDA and confidentialty agreements
Development agreements -
Publishing houses outsource for developers to create games for them. Development agreements details the terms of the deal.

License agreements -
Contracts are created for the terms which details if a publishing house wants to make a game about an already existing product, e.g. a film.

Collaboration agreements -
These contracts are essential for indie game makers who are producing games outside the mainstream industry and must cover issues of ownership and compensation. This details, who owns the intellectual property, how the game is to be used, how income (if any) is handled and how termination of the project is handled.

Non-Disclosure agreements -
One business who has made something new within the games industry (e.g. new technology or game idea) may need to disclose information to any business/individual. The information must be kept confidential or law proceedings may occur.
