Movie Clip

  • Adobe Flash Creative Suite 5’s powerful and versatile movie clip symbol type can include entire, independent Flash CS5 animations yet be placed and maintained in your movie just as easily as graphic symbols. The movie clip is one of three symbol types in Flash, and just like graphic symbols, they can be easily duplicated and maintained from a single master symbol in the library.

Movie Clip

  • Use movie clip symbols to create reusable pieces of animation. Movie clips have their own timelines of several frames, independent of the main Timeline. They are inside a main Timeline that can contain interactive controls, sounds and even other movie clip instances.

Button

  • A button can change it's appearance according to what 'State' it is in. There are three states: Up, Over & Down: Up: Is when the mouse pointer is not over the button. Over: Is when the mouse pointer is over the button. Down: Is when the mouse pointer is over the button and the mouse button is down.

  • Use button symbols to create interactive buttons that respond to keystrokes and mouse movements of, or other actions. Define the graphics associated with various button states, and then assign a button instance actions.

  • Use graphic symbols for static images and to create reusable animations associated with the main Timeline. Graphic symbols operate in sync with the main Timeline. Interactive controls and sounds will not work in the animation sequence of a graphic symbol.

  • Graphic symbols are reusable static images that are used mainly to create animations. Any drawn vector/plain text/imported bitmap (photo), or combinations of these, can be converted into a single controllable object, called a graphic symbol. Graphic Symbols have only one frame in their timeline.

Graphic symbols add less to the FLA file size than buttons or movie clips because they have no timeline.
