DISCOVERED BY

  • Henry H. Turner, MD, credited with publishing the first manuscript
  • in 1938 that described the syndrome that bears his last name.

RESEARCH

  • Scientist are still working to find a cure everyday
  • Along the way they have figured out ways to reduce the effects of the disease

SYMPTOMS

  • Underdevelopment of body parts that usually develop during puberty.
  • kidney problems, high blood pressure, heart problems, overweight, etc.
  • Some girls with the condition experience learning difficulties, mostly in math.
  • A difficult time with tasks that require skills like map reading or visual organization.
  • a "webbed" neck (extra folds of skin from tops of the shoulders to sides of neck)

BODY SYSTEMS AFFECTED

  • ENDOCRINE SYSTEM:Controls growth, metabolism and sexual development/functions

HOW IT HAPPENS

It is a mutation, when females only have one instead of two chromosomes.

HOW TO TREAT IT.

  • A treatment Turner syndrome is estrogen replacement,it helps the girl develop the physical changes of puberty.
  • Growth hormone treatment can improve growth and influence a girl's final adult height.
  • Vitro fertilization can make it possible for some women with Turner syndrome to become pregnant.

BEING DIAGNOSED

The female is diagnosed as a baby or during the time puberty is supposed to start.
