THE CULTURAL REVOLUTION DURING THE 15TH CENTURY

At the middle of the 15th century Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press which contributed to the spread of the new culture during the Modern Age

HOW DID IT WORK?

  • Compose the text using the movable type
  • Use ink on the metal matrix made up of movable type and press the paper on it.
  • Make other copies.
  • Finally put the pages in order and bind the book.

THIS INVENTION WAS IMPORTANT FOR CULTURE BECAUSE...

  • It made possible to make copies in a shorter time than a monk copied out a book by hand.
  • It contributed to spread the new thinking called humanism in the first European universities.
