TRUE GRIT

RESEARCH PRESENTATION

THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE OLD WEST

Expansion
- Women weren't expected to stay in the "women sphere" of society. Women expanded their roles once they moved west.

-They were allowed to attend universities; therefore, many of them went on to become school administrators, doctors, lawyers, etc.

-Because they were allowed to hold property in their own name, some women ran ranches and farms.

-Women often had to do farm work in addition to housework and caring for children.
