TROPISM

TROPISM DEFINITION-

GROWTH MOVEMENT LIVING ORGANISM HAS TOWARD EXTERNAL STIMULUS.

GEOTROPISM

  • The growth of a living organism in response to gravity
  • There is positive tropism and negative tropism
  • Positive tropism is the grow of an organism close to the earth
  • Negative tropism is the growth of an organism away from the earth
  • This ensures the plan will get adequate supply of water and mineral salts

PHOTOTROPISM

  • The growth response of a living organism on response to light
  • Positive phototropism is when the plant grows toward the sunlight
  • Negative tropism is when the plant grows away from the light.
  • Phototropism allows plants to be in a position to get sunlight for photosynthesis

HYDROTROPISM

  • The growth of a living organism in response to water
  • The way the root grows toward the water
  • Negative hydrotropism is when the roots grow away from water
  • Positive hydrotropism is when the roots grow towards water.
  • Hydrotropism makes sure the plant gets enough water for photosynthesis

THIGMOTROPISM

  • The growth of living organisms in response to touch/contact
  • Positive thigmotropism is when the organism grows/clings to fence
  • Negative thigmotropism is when the organism grows away from the touch
