TREATY OF FOUNTAINBLEAU

  • The Treaty of Fontainebleau was an agreement established in Fontainebleau, France, on 11 April 1814, between Napoleon I and representatives from the Austrian Empire, Russia, and Prussia. The treaty was signed at Paris on 11 April, by the plenipotentiaries of both sides, and ratified by Napoleon on 13 April.

Treaty of fountainbleau goes back to Louisiana because it was a agreement that France ceded Louisiana to Spain. The treaty followed the last battle in the French and Indian war in North America.

The agreement covered all of Louisiana the entire valley of the Mississippi River from the Appalachian TO the Rockies. The treaty was kept secret even during the French negotiation and signing of the treaty of Paris which ended the war of Britain.

  • It took place in 1814 between Napoleon and Delegates from Austrian empires, Russia, and Prussia
  • Napoleon had been ruling for 10 years
  • Invaded Russia but failed
  • THE Russians and Austrians and other allies invaded France; after the battle of Paris THEY entered into discussions with members of the French government for the resignation of Napoleon
  • Napoleon accepted defeat in April 1814
  • He was able to keep his title of emperor
  • However all of his descendants relatives were blocked from obtaining power in France
