PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The movie the Guardian is about a high school swim champion that enrolled into the U.S. Coast Guard. He believes himself to be the best until he meets his legendary rescue swimmer of a teacher Ben Randall. Throughout the movie Ben teaches hard lessons about love, loss, and self-sacrifice; all things he knows from experience.
Ben Randall is one of the main characters in this movie; playing a very important role. He is one to always our others before himself; always willing to sacrifice himself in any situation. This is good until it just isn't. Being the tip dog--having the fastest rescue time, the tip rescue numbers, and having nearly any deaths-- always comes with a price. A price that Ben eventually pays.
Ben is looked up to by his peers, his friends and eventually the students he teaches. They all see him as a type of god because of how long he has been a rescue swimmer, and his rescue times and standings.
Flaw: spending so much time being s rescue swimming that his loving and devoted wife is somewhat forgotten.
Two Downfalls:
His rescue crew and him getting in a major accident where he is the a ONLY survivor; thus forcing him into his teaching position at the school.
The second downfall being when his wife files for divorce because she is afraid he loves his job more than her.
Even with having PTSD because of his accident, his wife filing for divorce and being stuck teaching instead of actually doing the one thing he loves, he still finds a way to realize his mistakes and tries to fix them. As things begin to look upward for him once he realizes he can overcome obstacles, he goes on a rescue mission; being one of the only men that can complete it, and does not return with his crew.
