STAR wars legos- high interest learning experiences

Collaboration with parents, grade level colleagues and Arts specialists
Mr Eveleigh and I worked extensively to create a high interest, hands on learning experience for children. In this photo, he is sharing a yet to be released project and shared the secret status of this project with students. Needless to say, this was very high interest for second graders. Students used the elements of design that he shared with us as they developed their own packaging and product placement for "The Perfect Toy". The
Arts specialists and I collaborated to take this to the next level, of bringing projects to life, using the guidelines that Mr. Eveleigh presented with us.

Standards:

Formative Assessment/ student collaboration in research

in designated roles, students conducted collaborative research on toys
After a formative assessment of determining what students knew about what makes different toys work, students worked in pairs to conduct research that would directly benefit the project that they were working on.

Collaboration

peers helping one another, prior to summative assessment with teacher
Students collaborated with one another and I met with students individually to check in on the progress of their projects. I used this information to help students to determine what their next steps were.

Through my collaboration with the arts specialists, students projects were brought to life. In this photo, Mrs. Etra, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Schlosser and myself are working with students. Each teacher is working with students to get them to their final product, a commercial and advertisement for a toy design.

Jingles with Mrs Etra

 collaboration
Mrs. Etra worked with students to write poetry that would ultimately be transformed into jingles. Students worked with me to count out beats, to work on enunciation and word choice. Ultimately they transformed those elements into song with Mrs. Etra to be used for a jingle to sell their toy design.
