Twirlin' Tornados

  • -Tornados Form when a thunderstorm meets a high altitude, horizontal wind. The wind causes a funnel shaped, spinning cloud to maybe touch the ground.
  • -Generally THey cover more than 100m wide, and their wind speeds get up to 400 km/h.

THe power of a tornado is
determined by the Fujita-Pearson scale

the Scale

  • F0-Gale tornado-40-72 Mph-Minor damage.
  • F1-Moderate Torndado-73-112 MPH-Loss of roofs. Vehicles moved from roadways.

The scale

  • F2-Significant-113-157 MPH-Considerable property damage, Roofs torn off, Trees uprooted.
  • F3-Severe- 158-206 MPH-Roof and walls torn off, Non-permanent

The scale

  • F4-Devastating-207-260 MPH-Well constructed houses leveled, Most vehicles air lifted
  • F5-Incredible-261-318 MPH-houses carried off foundations

Swirly Hurricane

  • -Hurricanes form when warm moist air rises rapidly over the ocean, then when the air condenses energy is released and the hurricane has started to form. The diameter can be anywhere from 400 to 800 KM wide.

Swirly Hurricane

  • -Hurricanes are the most destructive storm that can occur on earth.
  • -The most dangerous aspect of a hurricane is a rising sea level and the large waves that come with it, This is called a storm surge.
  • -every Hurrivane is classified on a 5 point scale called the Saffir-simpson scale.

The scale

  • -1-74-95 mph- Very dangerous winds will produce some damage
  • -2-96-110 MPH- Extremely dangerous winds will cause extensive damage
  • -3-111-129 MPH-Devastating damage will occur, Electricity and water may not be available for days or weeks after the storm passes.

The scale

  • -4-130-156 MPH- Catastrophic damage will occur Power outages will last weeks to possibly months. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks/months.
  • -5-157+ wind speeds- Catastropic damage will occur. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks or months.
