The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for 182,000 members and affiliates who are audiologists; speech-language pathologists; speech, language, and hearing scientists; audiology and speech-language pathology support personnel; and students.

We are:

  • 279 mission driven staff in Rockville, MD
  • Mostly women (73%) in our forties (46)
  • Who are well educated (38% with masters or PhD)
  • We speak 28 different languages
  • We plan to stay at ASHA awhile (9+ years)
All but five of us are in our headquarters in Rockville, MD. We have a small satellite office on Capitol Hill.

We have a long-term perspective. Dee Edington projected that it takes 13 years to achieve a positive ROI on wellness initiatives. Our average tenure is 8.5 years, so we have a lot of employees with >13 years of service -- 78 people or 29% of our staff. We also provide health insurance to our retirees and have 30 of our 59 retirees on our plan.
