PRESENTATION OUTLINE
PROJECT BY: JARED NELSON #15
The first difference that I have is that in the move they skipped what would have been the beginning of the book.
The reason that I think the director might have done this is because they wanted to keep the movie shorter and make it more interesting.
The second difference is that in the movie Tom Robinson had kids but in the book he didn't.
I think the director did this because he felt that it would add more drama to the movie when they heard that he had been shot if he had a family than just his wife.
The third difference that I chose was in the book Jem had found gum wrappers inside of the hole in the tree but in the movie he found wood carved figurines of them selves.
I think that the director did this because he wanted it to be something that was more personal to jem and scout so that it would be more dramatic.
The fourth difference that I chose is that in the movie Tom Robinson was shot once but in the book he was shot 17 times while trying to escape from prison.
I think that the director could have done this because when you are reading the book it paints a picture in your mind but when you are seeing it on a screen then you can see the family's expressions.
The next difference that I have chosen is that in the scene of the courtroom in the movie dill cried after it was over but in the book he never did this.
I think the director did this to add a sense of oppression to the scene as if all of them were devastated to find out he was guilty.
The next difference that I chose was that in the movie Dolphus Raymond never met the children but in the book they did.
I think the director chose to do this because they can only make a movie so long but a book they can make it as long as they want so they had to pick the parts that they thought would be more important to the viewers.
The eight difference that I chose is that in the movie jem showed scout the box of different things he had found in the tree but in the book he didn't.
I think the director did this because he wanted the audience to get as much information and details as he could.
The ninth difference is that in the movie after Jem lost his pants he went right back to get them but in the book he waited till later that night.
I think the director did this because he wanted it to have more action in it as if he was in a rush because he was scared he was going to get shot.
The final difference is that in the book Tom Robinson was trying to escape from a mob and was shot 17 times but in the movie he tried to escape from the prison guards.
I think the director did this. Because he wanted to make it more realistic and reasonable because in real life an angry mob would not have just shot you because they also would have been arrested.
