Scout Finch

  • Scout is the daughter of Atticus and a sister to Jem.
  • Scout always stands her ground and is very brave and bold to everyone she talks to.
  • Compared to most kids her age, Scout is very smart as she went into the first day of school reading and writing.
  • "Now that I was compelled to think about it, reading was something that just came to me, as learning to fasten the seat of my union suit without looking around, or achieving two bows from a snarl of shoelaces," (20).

Jem Finch

  • Jem is a very curious person and his curiosity often gets the best of him, pushing him to make poor choices.
  • Often worrying about things he has no control over, Jem sometimes forgets to be a kid.
  • Not only does Jem worry about things he can't control, he also worries about things that don't matter.
  • "He couldn't have cared less, so long as he could pass and punt," (3).

Atticus Finch

  • Atticus Finch is the father of Scout and Jem. He is the only parent they have as his wife passed away when his children were young.
  • Atticus is a very brave man as he is defending a colored man who is on trial. When he agreed to be the lawyer for a colored man, he knew he was getting him and his family into some rough situations. Although, he also knew it would prepare his children to be mature young adults. Just one of the few ways he is a great parent.
  • Atticus also has a keen sense for when his kids are doing something they shouldn't be and can put a stop to it immediately.
