ABOU THE AUTHOR HARPER LEE

  • Harper Lee is an American novelist widely known for her 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning To Kill a Mockingbird
  • She was born in 1926 on April 28, she was born in monrovil,e alabama
  • She is currently 88 years on age
  • She is going to publish another book titled to set a watchman, it will be published in april 2015
  • Tkamb was a widely popular book and was made into a movie in 1962

THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS

  • they were Nine African American boys that were convicted of raping two Caucasian Girls.
  • April 1931, Scottsboro Alabama. There was a lot of racism in this area of the U.S at this time.
  • the naacp. didn’t help them because it would make them look bad.
  • After five of them died they were pardoned of their conviction.
  • Their defense lawyers were prejudice, inexperienced, and attorneys not lawyers.

THE GREAT DEPRESSION

  • The stock market crashed causeing everyone invested in it to lose all their investments
  • Women took over jobs that men would usually had because of the war
  • Oresident herbert hoover was inaugurated in 1933
  • The dust bowl was a series of serious dust storms in the canadian prairies during the 1930's
  • It made it so no crops could be grown in the area anymore

LIFE IN THE SOUTH

  • Blacks had a harder time finding jobs
  • White land owners had a harder time keeping up their profits
  • Black and white children somtimes did not have new or clean clothes
  • And in even worse cases no food either

JIM CROW LAWS

  • They were segrGation laws
  • Blacks and white could not eat together
  • Blacks were not allowed to show public affection to each other
  • Blacks and whites had to use separate bathrooms from each other
  • They could not go to the same school and black couldn't teach whites
