MIDDLE COLONIES

NEW YORK- founded by Dutch colonists, founded for religious freedom and economic opportunity.

NEW JERSEY- founded by John Bentley and George Carteret, founded for religious freedom and economic opportunities.

PENNSYLVANIA- Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn founded for economic opportunities for quakers.

DELAWARE- founded by Swedish Settlers and founded for economic opportunities.

Geography- great place for farming has lots of sunlight and rain

Economy- The economy in the middle colonies was good. It is a very easy place to trade stuff The middle colonies were most known for making bread. Although they had good soil for farming people couldn’t make a living out of it

Religion- most people were Quakers, Catholics, Jews and others

Government-All of the systems of government in the Middle Colonies elected their own legislature, they were all democratic, they all had a governor, governor's court, and a court system. Government in the Middle Colonies was mainly Proprietary, but New York started as a Royal Colony. Definitions of both of the government systems are:

Government-
Royal Government: The Royal Colonies were ruled directly by the English monarchy
Propriety Government: The King granted land to people in North America, who then formed Proprietary Colonies
new york and new jersey were both royal and pennsylvania and delaware were propitery
slogan: Work hard, play hard
