THE LAST SUPPER: WASHING OF THE FEET

  • The Apostles and Jesus gathered before the feast of Passover
  • Jesus got up and began washing feet
  • Peter refused but Jesus said, "if I do not wash you, you have no part in me"
  • Simon wanted Jesus to wash his whole body, but Jesus said he was clean
  • Jesus was setting an example: the master is not better than the servant

MEANING: WASHING OF THE FEET

  • Jesus washed his Apostles' feet to show love and gave a new commandment
  • "Love one another, even as I have loved, that you also love one another."
  • Jesus became a servant
  • Message: being a true disciple means to serve others

REACTION: IF I WAS THERE

  • At first, as Jesus prepared to wash our feet, I was confused
  • Like Peter, I refused for Jesus to wash my feet as that was a servant's job
  • I uncomfortably sat down and let Jesus wash my feet, just like a servant and master
  • As I watched Jesus wash all of our feet, I finally understood
  • As a disciple, my job was to serve everyone around me, not look down upon them

THE LAST SUPPER: THE INSTITUTION OF THE EUCHARIST

  • Jesus celebrated Passover with his disciples
  • He said, "This is my body which is given for you. Do this in memory of me."
