THE PURPOSE OF THIS LAB IS TO DEVELOP A KIT TO TEST FOODS FOR SUGAR, STARCH, PROTEIN, AND LIPIDS

INDICATOR- CHEMICAL SUBSTANCE THAT REACT IN A CERTAIN WAY WHEN A PARTICULAR SUBSTANCE IS PRESENT. STANDARD- A POSITIVE TEST FOR A KNOWN SUBSTANCE.

BENEDICT'S TEST

If Bendict's solution is added to glucose, then the glucose will change colors because Benedict's solution did detect the presence of glucose

POSITIVE

THE TEST TUBE WITH GLUCOSE TURNED AN ORANGE-ISH COLOR WHEN BENEDICT'S SOLUTION WAS ADDED AND HEATED.

LUGOLS IODINE TEST

IF LUGOL'S IODINE SOLUTION IS ADDED TO STARCH, THEN THE STARCH WILL CHANGE COLORS BECAUSE THE LUGOLS IODINE SOLUTION DID DETECT THE PRESENCE OF STARCH

POSITIVE

TEST TUBE #4, WHICH HAD STARCH, CHANGED TO A BLACK COLOR WHEN LUGOLS SOLUTION WAS ADDED.

BIURET'S TEST

IF BIURET'S SOLUTION IS ADDED TO PROTEIN, THEN THE PROTEIN WILL CHANGE COLORS BECAUSE THE BIURET'S SOLUTION DID DETECT THE PRESENCE OF PROTEINS

POSITIVE

THE ALBUMIN PROTEIN TURNED TO A DARK PURPLE WHEN BIURET'S SOLUTION WAS ADDED.

LIPIDS TEST

IF A DROP OF LIPID IS PLACED ON BROWN PAPER, THEN THE LIPID WILL LEAVE AN OILY SPOT BECAUE BROWN PAPER SIS INDICATE THE PRESENCE OF A LIPID.

AFTER 15 MINUTES, THE OILY SPOT EXPANDED AND HAD NOT COMPLETELY SOAKED UP UNLIKE THE WATER.

CONCLUSIONS:

MY DATA DID SUPPORT MY HYPOTHESIS BECAUSE WHEN I USED A SPECIFIC SOLUTION, THE NUTRIENTS I WAS LOOKING FOR WE'RE POSITIVE.
