What is pancreatitis caused by?
Pancreatitis can be caused by heavy alcohol use, animal stings/bites, damage or injury to pancreas, medication, diet and viruses.

Is pancreatitis contagious?
No, although it can be caused by contagious viruses.

How many people are affected by pancreatitis?
Around 20,000 people in the age group of 41-60 are affected each year.

What are the symptoms?
The symptoms of pancreatitis are upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Is it treatable?
Yes, you can treat it by being given a certain medicine, getting fluids and fasting food and drinks.

Can it be prevented?
Yes, it can be prevented if you maintain good hygiene, avoid areas with poisonous animal, and avoid back and abdominal injuries.
