  • John Mackey is the founder and CEO of Whole Foods Market.
  • Originally started as a 'Saferway' but merged with another food market.
  • Started in Austin, but quickly expanded around the country
  • Growth was fueled by the aquiring of many other food companies
  • Sales doubled each year for the first four years of opening

  • Whole Foods eventually aquired most other companies

  • Despite enormous growth, their quality has never decreasaed.
  • Their quantity, however, has increased dramatically over time.
  • Now, they have over 2,600 products and 365 brands of food

  • However, their income has increasedd significantly
  • In 1980, there were less than half a dozen stores
  • Now, there are over 300 worldwide
  • Today, whole foods makes approx. $14.2 billion per year
  • That is an 18% increase from last year, and continues to grow

  • He also runs a blog where he discusses important political issues.
  • Already, he has talked about health care and capitalism.

  • He advocates for humane animal treatment constantly
  • Changed his own diet to vegan to support the cause
  • Also has an emeregancy fund set up for employees with financial problems
