Was a joint-stock company which is an organization that raised money by selling shares of a company
They were granted a charter by King James to settle in Virginia
Gave away land to attract new settlers
A colonist who bought land had a head right
Head right-the right to a certain amount of land
This process helped the colony's population grow

The colonist wanted Governor Berkeley to send a group of of citizen soldiers also known as militia to attack Native Americans
Governor Berkeley wanted keep their relationship with Natives because they traded fur with them
Nathaniel Bacon led attacks against the Natives without Berkeley’s consent
Led a group of his followers into Jamestown to go against Berkeley

Berkeley left the colony but came back and arrested some of Bacon’s supporters
