THE HOLOCAUST

BY NICOLE MEDINA

The holocaust began in 1933 when Adolf hitler came into power in Germany

In addition to Jews the nazis targeted gypsies, homosexuals, Jehovah's witnesses, and disabled

It is estimated that about 11 million people were killed during the holocaust

Only about 6 million of the people killed were Jews

CONCENTRATION CAMPS

  • One of the first concentration camps was dachau
  • In 1933 until 1938 most prisoners in concentration camps were "political prisoners"
  • A number of concentration camps used prisoners for medical experiments
  • Prisoners were told to undress and take a shower and instead of a shower the prisoners were herded into gas chambers and killed

Hitler eventually surrendered to the allied powers and the holocaust ended
