TREE KANGAROO

BY ARLETH

POUCHES

TREE KANGAROO HAVE A WELL-DEVELOPED POUCH IN WHICH THEY CARRY AND NURSE THEIR YOUNG.

CLAWS

CURVED CLAWS ARE ADAPTATIONS FOR THIS WAY OF LIFE FOR THEM.

LEGS

THEY HAVE SHORTER HIND LEGS AND STRONGER FORELIMBS TO MANEUVER IN THE TREETOPS.

BODY SYSTEM

  • The digestive system takes in food and processes it to obtain useful nutrients.
  • The digestive system uses mechanical and chemical methods to break food down into nutrient molecules that can be absorbed into the blood.
  • Since birds have no teeth, the digestive system must grind up food so that the energy stored in it can be used. A hollow digestive tube extends.

UNIQUE ADAPTATIONS

  • On the ground, tree-kangaroos are slow and clumsy, but in the trees they are bold and agile, leaping from branch to branch. They can jump to the ground from remarkable heights without injury. They have strong forelimbs for climbing, powerful hind legs for hopping upwards and long tails for balance.
