abrief overview of the basic types of human tissue

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Tissues make up organs

  • Epithelial Tissue
  • Connective Tissue
  • Muscle Tissue
  • Nervous Tissue

Properties of Epithelium

  • non vascular
  • cells close together
  • cells reproduce rapidly
  • epithelium jobs: lines, protects, secretes, allows diffusion

Connective Tissue

Connecting is its job!

Characteristics of CT

  • Except for cartilage, c.t is vascular
  • cells spaced apart
  • space between cells filled by a matrix
  • matrix can be fibrous , liquid (blood), gel-like, solid (bone)
  • main job: support and connection of tissues to form functional organs

Muscle Tissue

Keeps things moving

types of muscle

  • cardiac: heart muscle moves blood
  • skeletal: connect bones to move body
  • smooth:  moves food through digestive tract
  • involuntary:  cardiac and smooth muscle
  • striated: cardiac and skeletal muscle
