• In 1448, Bartolomeu Dias sailed down to the tip of Africa. After a storm at sea, the ships were pushed farther around the tip, which lead the Portuguese to discover more of Africa!

• In 1589, Prince Henry inherited the throne as King of France. This is a very important event because this is the start of Henry |V's reign in France!

• Following the death of Cardinal Mazzarin, Louis XIV gains full control of France's government.

1680'S

• By the end of the 1680's, Louis XIV had a powerful army that was invading Europe. The countries then formed an alliance to stop Louis. This was an end of his Absolute Rule.
