WHY IS TIME IMPORTANT IN RLR

  • In this film (run Lola run) time is very important, because Lola has to get 100,000 marks in 20 minutes, if Lola can’t get the money, Manni (Lola's boyfriend) will be killed by gangsters.

HOW IS TIME PORTRAYED IN RLR

  • Time is unstoppable,
  • We move with time,
  • Time is consuming and controlling,
  • Time is always moving,
  • Time isn't relevant to anyone and is irrelevant to everyone, but applies to everyone,
  • Lola running is taking up time.

HOW DO CLOCKS SYMBOLISE TIME IN RLR

  • Clocks ticking indicate that time is running out,
  • Clocks ticking also indicate that time is being used,
  • When Lola screams the clocks breaks and shader so time can stops, it indicates that Lola can control time,

HOW IS TIME MANIPULATED IN RLR

  • Our understanding of time is that it is constantly moving and it can't be stopped or paused no matter what we do, everyone is living within time’s boundaries. Tom Twyker has portrayed an idea that time can be more important than we think it is. The film (RLR) opens with an extreme close up of a pendulum slowly swinging back and forth, panning upward to a fast-ticking of a clock and constant racing ‘tick tock, tick tock’ evolves into a suspenseful techno-orchestral soundtrack and we see an animated Lola running and being swallowed by various clocks, this symbolises powerlessness against time. The combination of these techniques suspense a feeling of curiosity within the audience. Tom Tykwer has effectively foreshadowed the relevance of time within the film.
