WEIGHT AND LENGTH
In Ohio the typical adult timber rattlesnake is 38 inch. In length and 8 to 9 inches around
The average weight for a male 1.7 pounds.
The average weight for a female is 1.3 pounds.

CHARACTERISTICS
Black or dark brown crossbands on a lighter background color of yellow, brown or gray, and a black phase
A forked tounge
A curled head
Pits between their eyes
Their eyes are dark black with slits

DIET
They eat squirrels and chipmunks
They eat frogs
They eat many small furry animals
They eat many small reptiles
5.
PREY
The timber rattlesnake has a temperature- sensitive opening, or pit, on either side of the face
This sensory organ is used to detect prey and potential predators
When vibrated, the rattle makes a buzzing sound characteristic of a disturbed rattlesnake.

BITES
The bites have poison in it
Bite will swell up
Swelled skin will turn purple
Will bleed if not treated.

BABIES
The young are approximately 1 foot (30 cm) in length at birth
They come out of eggs
Emerge singly from the female

FUN FACTS!
Timber rattlesnakes are active from late April until mid-October.
Adults shed their skin every one or two years
In northern New York they may not emerge until mid- May
