How do tides occur?
Tides occur because of the Moon's Gravitational Pull on Earth. The gravitational force of the Moon causes the oceans to bulge out in the direction of the Moon. Another bulge occurs on the opposite side of the Earth, which is facing away from the Moon. This is caused by the Earth's rotation about its own axis.

Tides can affect coastal regions in different ways.
And it can happen when high tides push amounts of water far up onto beaches and leave sand and sediment mixed with water behind when the tide goes out.

WHEN DO LOW AND HIGH TIDES OCCUR?

  • Low and high tides occur twice a day.
  • The oceans are moving from high tide to low tide, then back to high tide again.
  • The duration between the high tides are 12 hours and 25 minutes or so.
