FACTS💯

  • Lake Mauvaise Terre Watershed is in Jacksonville, Morgan County
  • Encompasses 34.3 square miles or approximately 21,000 acres
  • It was completed in 1923 and modified in 1983
  • The city of Jacksonville, Illinois draws drinking water from Mauvaise and their groundwater

SLOPE💎

  • Watershed slope is total elevation change of main channel divided by hydronic length
  • It reflects runoff momentum, which is a principle determiner of flood height
  • Hydrologic length is distance from outlet to watershed boundary along main channel (waterway)

SHAPE💦

  • The shape of the water shed influences the shape of its characteristic hydrograph
  • A long shaped watershed generates the same rainfall, a lower outlet flow as the time is higher
  • A watershed having a fan shape presents a lower concentration time, and it generates a higher flow

GRADIENT⚡️🌪

  • Gradient images of a watershed is image processing
  • Watershed of a grayscale image is analogous to the notion of a catchment basin of a height map
  • In a short drop of water following the gradient of an image flows along a path to finally reach a local minimum

SEDIMENT⚒

  • Sediment is loose sand, clay, slit and other soil particles that settle at the bottom of a body of water
  • 30% of the total sediment in the U.S accelerated erosion from human use of land
  • Sediment pollution causes $16 billion in environmental damage annually
  • Murky water prevents natural vegetation from growing in water

LAND DEVELOPMENT

IT PUSHES BACK AND DELAYS THE CREATION OF MORE WATERSHEDS

URBANIZATION🗑🕯

  • When dirt and different types of poisons and molecules get into our water systems it kills the fish, it kills our natural animals and daily supplies we use everyday.

POLLITION INFLUENCES⚖🌬

  • The pollution comes from chimneys, cars, factories, everywhere and it gets into the clouds and the rain which gets into are water system which can also kill living things and supplies we need. Especially the plants they need water the most and if it is poisoned the plants will die faster with water than without it.

PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT🌹👏🏽

  • Electric cars have been created to bring down the car pollution rate, the factories are using less supplies to slow the process down, boats and ships are taking closer routes so they wouldn't waste as more gas.

PROTECTION GROUPS🤘🌳

  • One group named the Wildlife Conservation Society focuses on animals and them staying alive, from poaching, loss of habitat, and extinction. Their conservation projects stretch around the globe and are at work in regions including Africa, Asia, Latin American, and the Caribbean.
