Thriving vs Surviving

in your life as an RA
Goal is to thrive, how do we do that? Start with a short video... https://www.facebook.com/RevDerekTerry/videos/vb.371645669690264/5110028724...

Look to your family and friends, look to your past experiences

Look to your fellow RA's
Maya Angelou said a few things that stuck out to me:

-Use the kindness of others to help you along your way- you are never alone in what you do- this relates to the RA staff especially as we go through this training together and develop stronger ties

-light found in darkness aka rainbows in clouds- look to others to light the way if you feel stuck or overwhelmed- never be afraid to reach out

Differences are beautiful

-differences don't matter- kindness breaks through these man-made barriers

Balance and prioritization

More tangible things that you can do to not only be successful but to excel and thrive:

-balancing new responsibilities, knowing what's important: yourself/family, student, RA

Make time for yourself and your passions

Stay Healthy, Eat Right

Be prepared to feel completely unpreparedd

At times this will happen even after our 3 week training- we can't go over everything but we can help you realize that you're most likely not the only one with questions about how to do things. Reach out. What we do hope to accomplish during training is to create a staff that is a family so that you can help one another throughout the year without hesitations or reservations.

Reflect

Draw a yourself on a piece of paper and think about how you stay healthy, what you do when you make time for yourself, who your support group is, how you find balance, what you prioritize, how you stay organized, etc.
