  • He drafted Declaration of Independence
  • Started Louis and Clark Expedition
  • Wanted US to stay as a small nation of independent farmers
  • Ended federalist programs
  • Repealed Alien and Sedition Acts

  • Filled up half of the country's debt
  • He calmed down the nation's political corrals
  • He also doubled the size of the U.S.
  • He did it by the Louisiana Purchase

WHY HE DID WHAT HE DID

  • He did it because he was committed to expanding the nation
  • Also, he wanted to do what was best for the country and its people
  • Was more as a gentleman farmer than a privileged politician because he grew up as a son of a farmer
  • Had understanding of the law, which made him fully obedient to the Constitution
  • His background as a son of a farmer influenced his motives and beliefs
