PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Thesis: Through out the Great Gatsby, the color white is closely related to daisy, through her way of living, the way she presents her self, and her personality.

In chapter one it reads, "A cheerful red-and-white Georgian Colonial mansion"(Fitzgerald)

One meaning of white is nothingness or empty, by the author using the word white to describe Daisy's house, he is also showing the nothingness of her life inside the home.

Another representation of white is being successful, by describing Daisy's clothing as white and cold, or her impersonal eyes, he implies that Daisy is living a life of wealth but that nothing is personal to her that she is simply only living to live, and have no regard or purpose for anything else.

The great Gatsby states, "'Our white girlhood was passed together there. Our beautiful white"'(Fitzgerald)

Another representation of white is purity, by Daisy saying her white girlhood was passed a long time ago in Louisville, it implying that she has not been pure for a long amount of time.

Through out all of the examples of white related to daisy, the main representation seems to be the nothingness and impurity of her way of living, her home, and even her relationship with Tom Buchanan. Scott Fitzgerald wants the reader to realize that she is not innocent and that she simply does nt care about anything in life except her wealth and her image.
