Characterization

  • in the beginning Marko is afraid 
  • "Marko was exhausted that night but he couldn't sleep. 
  • Every time he closed his eyes he saw the bicycle and 
  • black gloves." (p.13)
  • this quote shows that he is afraid of something that has happened to him.

charachterzation

  • in the middle of the book Marko is realizing the brutality of war
  • "The soldier's stomach had been torn open, and he was 
  • cradling his intestines in his hands. As the medic ran to tend to
  • the man, Marko knelt at the end of the trench and threw up" (P.173)
  • this quote shows Marko is learning the price of war.

CHARACTERIZATION

  • in the end of the book Marko understands the price he has to pay
  • "Not Virtalinna!" Marko said."' Never! Never!"
  • this shows that Marko had to learn the price of peace is a hard 
  • price to pay.

  • Marko is an ordinary Finnish kid who has pilio and joins the 
  • military as a messager to fight against the Russians that are 
  • invading the country as he fights through the
  • freezing Finnish winter with is new best friend Karl 
  • after going through a tough childhood

  • there was a small amount of details that were missed out
