They called on the

United States and other Western Nations to intervene

The defending nations gave their support

and a lot of money into the war to keep the enemy at bay

There were over 500,000 U.S.-led troops

The first troops that were sent where the Marines

  • Fought over 100 miles throught occupied territory
  • Crushed seven Iraqi dividions
  • Destroyed over 1,600 tanks and armored vehicles
  • Took over 22,000 prisoners

The nations lending help brought approximately

2,700 vehicles, 45,666 sortied, and 158,811 short tons of supplies and equipment

99% of the men had never seen combat before

But they still went

They flew with professionalism

and tactical proficiency from day one

They had newer, stronger weapons.
Desert storm saw the first use of the MIM-104C Patriot Missile System in combat

It was also the first time that the Air Force used

stealth and space systems support capabiliriees

The U.S.-led troops tried to minimize

combat on the groud as much as posible

The air boiled down to supporting the troops on the ground

by destroying as many Iraqi troops, weapons, and equipment as posible

The air was too hot to sustain life for

long amounts of time because of all the explosions

They rarely went out of their tanks and other

vehicles to keep their men alive, while they defeated the enemy

They fought with U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle fighters, supported by EF-111 Ravens, and raced into Iraqi air space virtually unopposed followed by hundreds of U.S Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coalition fixed-wing aircraft and cruise missiles

"Our strategy to go after this [Iraqi] army is very simple. First, we're going to cut it off, and then we're going to kill it." - General Colin Powell, 23 February 1991

In 100 hours, U.S. and allied ground gorces in Iraq and Kuwait

decisively defeated a battle-hardened and dangerous enemy

During air and ground operations, U.S. and allied forces destroyed over 3,000 tanks, 1,400 armored personnel carriers, and 2,200 artillery pieces along with countless other vehicles.

It took a lot of guts to go out and fight a war

and out of those 50,000 troops only 203 of those men could not return home.
