  • 1945- Japan surrendered and Ho Chi Minh came into power
  • 1946- the Indochina war starts
  • 1964- the gulf of Tonkin Incident occurs when North Vietnam shot a US navy ship

The Goal of the Communist:
The Goal of the Communist was to unify Vietnam under a single communist reign modeled after the Soviet Union

Goals...
Vietnam- wanted Vietnam more closely aligned with the west
USA- Scared that communism will rule

THE FLOWER GIRL

The flower child was a girl who joined a group of 100,000 protesters who were protesting against war efforts. This girl, who was later
identified as Jan Rose Kasmir, was standing alone hopeing to get a chance to talk to one of the 2,500 soldiers who were blocking the protesters. French Photojournilist Marc Riboud saw this and took these wonderful pictures.

The draft:
People 18 years or older were forced to participate in the Vietnam war.
People where sent notices of there draft and they were forced to apply. Refusing to reply was against the law. People where then taken to camps and given basic military training. Then they were taken to Vietnam to fight Draft dodgers are people who fled the country to avoid the draft.
