  • The french had no longer use for Louisiana and it was sold for 15 Million dollars.
  • Lewis and Clark were both amateur scientists and were both in the military.
  • The purpose was to find people, plants, animals and geography to the west.
  • Sacagawea joined their group as a guide. She was a Shoshone indian.

SOUTHERN PLANTATION'S CULTURES

  • Southerners lived on small farms or large plantations
  • The farms and plantations were widely separtated from each other
  • The economy depended on slavery and growing cash crops

SLAVERY

  • Life as a slave was working form dawn until dusk.
  • The men worked on the fields
  • The women cooked, sewed, cleaned and cared after the childern
  • They never saw a farm and plantation and stayed in small cities

NORTHERN CITIES

  • Mills and factories grew and brought in workers from farms and overseas
  • There was a large gap between weathly and poor residents
  • Weathly: Business people Middle: Artisans Poor: working class

THE WEST

  • Had uncertain climate, limited supplies,and sometimes failing crops
  • Settlements were far apartand hard to reach
  • Weddings was a major part. It drew people in from the surrounding area
  • The food was usally simple like bread and butter, fried pork,and wild fruits
