CITIES OF THE SOUTH

  • Atlanta was burned during Gen. Sherman's March to the Sea
  • Richmond was destroyed by Gen. Grant near the end of the war
  • Montgomery was captured by the Union
  • Columbia, like Atlanta, was burned by Gen. Sherman

PEOPLE OF THE SOUTH

  • Many people were killed in Sherman's March to the Sea
  • Others were left poor and homeless because of the war
  • The South became part of U.S again
  • The people of the South had to release their slaves

FAMOUS PEOPLE OF THE SOUTH

  • Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox
  • Jefferson Davis was imprisoned
  • Alexander Stephens was imprisoned, but soon became a senator
