PLANETS

  • They are spherical bodies which revolve around the Sun.
  • The inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars
  • They are made up of rocks
  • The outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
  • They are made up of gases

DWARF PLANETS

  • They are spherical bodies which orbit the Sun.
  • They are smaller than the other planets.
  • Example:
  • Pluto

SATELLITES

  • They orbit planets.
  • They consists of rock
  • Example:
  • Moon

ASTEROIDS

  • They are rocky objects which are irregular in shape.
  • They orbit around the Sun.
  • Most of them orbit between Mars and Jupiter.
  • This area is called Asteroid belt.

COMETS

  • They are small bodies that travel around the Sun in highly elliptical orbits.
  • Their shape is irregular.
  • The nucleus is made up of ice, dust and gas.
  • When the comets are near the Sun, the ice evaporates creating a tail.
