  • Great source of energy
  • Two types:simple sugar & complex
  • Foods with carbohydrates:fruits,veggies,grains,sweets
  • Sweets are simple sugars while grains veggies and fruits are complex

PROTEINS

  • Needed for growth
  • Transports nutrients
  • Builds and repairs body tissue
  • Examples:meats, eggs, nuts, seeds, beans, fish

FATS

  • Gives you healthy skin
  • Cushions organs
  • Helps utilize vitamins
  • Peanut butter, olive oil, nuts, fish oil
  • Different types: trans fat, saturated fat, unsaturated fat
  • Most energy dense nutrients

  • Helps body to use energy
  • Regulates body processes
  • Vitamin A: orange foods;carrots,oranges,
  • Vitamin B; animal products
  • Examples; citrus foods,eggs,meat , etc

MINERALS

  • Regulates chemical reactions in the body
  • Examples;Zinc, phosphorus, potassium,sodium, etc
  • Minerals are in every food
